The Yarn
The White and Blue Ombre Hat
For my Wip Wednesday Cal Juniper Hat, I’ve used two different kinds of WeCrochet Yarn for a completely different look! The Ombre Blue and White Hat is made with WeCrochet Wonderfluff, which is billowy and soooo soft!
The WeCrochet Website describes Wonderfluff:

Pattern for Gauge Swatch
Row 1: Ch 21, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each st across, turn–20sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in BLO of each st across, turn.
Rows 3-12: Repeat Row 2.
Notes
- Hat is worked Top Down starting at the crown of head, and finishing with the Brim.
- Weave in ends as pattern progresses.
- Starting ch 3 counts as 1st dc.
- Starting ch 5 counts as (dc, ch 2).
- V-Stitch Rounds are the increase Rounds.
- Join to top of starting ch with a slip st.
Abbreviations
ch(s) – chain(s), sc – single crochet, sl st – slip stitch, hdc- half double crochet, dc- double crochet
Special Stitches
Fpdtr (front post double treble crochet) = Yo 3 times, insert hook around indicated st from front to back, yo and draw up a loop, [yo and draw through 2 loops] 4 times.
Popcorn = 5 dc in indicated st, drop working loop from hook, insert hook into 1st dc, pick up working loop and draw it through to close.
V-Stitch = [dc, ch 2, dc] in same space.
Part Two – Starting the Hat Body
The Juniper Hat is worked top-down, which means that it starts from the crown of your head and works downward towards the brim. We will be starting with a magic circle, but you can replace the magic circle by using a chain in its place. Some of the stitch placements are a bit tricky, so be sure to watch the live tutorial happening during Wip Wednesday on August 11th at 8:30pm est on the CoCo Crochet Lee Facebook Page! You can also watch the replay any time to catch the stitch tutorial.
Let’s Talk about those Gauge Swatches:
There were so many great gauge swatches posted in the CoCo Crochet Lee Community Group, it was wonderful to see!
Gauge is so important when you are crocheting a garment (any kind of wearable, really) because it ensures that your measurements and my measurements will be roughly the same. A few people felt disheartened that their gauge could only be met by using a hook that was several sizes away from mine, and I cannot express enough that that is perfectly okay! We may be using different yarns than each other, and we are also most assuredly using different hands! Everyone crochets differently, and that is the beauty of it. As long as your gauge swatch is measured pretty close to mine, you’re good to go!

Part 3 – The Brim
This week we will be putting the brim on the bottom of our hat! I have absolutely loved seeing all of your beautiful hats in the CoCo Crochet Lee Community Group and on Ravelry, they are all looking so amazing!
It’s really interesting to see all of the yarn and colour choices that everyone makes!
Here are the instructions to put the Brim on your Hat!
Row 1: Chain 9, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, sl st in the next 2 sc from final row of Hat Body, turn–8 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, skip next 2 sl sts, sc in BLO of next 8 sc, turn–8 sc.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in BLO of next 8 sc, sl st in next 2 sc from final row of Hat Body, turn–8 sc.
Rows 4–: Repeat Rows 2-3 all the way around the hat.
Join Row 1 to final row by either sewing it shut, or with sl sts. Weave in ends.
