It’s happening!! I’m so excited you guys!! It’s our FOURTH Wip Wednesday Crochet Along! For the friends who haven’t joined us yet, I have an exciting invitation to extend to you! Every Wednesday for roughly the last 3 years, I’ve done a live video chat over on Facebook at 830pm est. We call it Wip Wednesday Live, and there’s a Facebook group to go along with it where everyone posts their current works in progress. It’s been so exciting to see it grow, and it’s now officially sponsored by my friends at @wecrochetofficial who have been offering a weekly prize of yarn and magazines for the last few months 🤩🥰. So many prizes, so many winners!
Then, something really crazy happened, and Facebook invited us into their new Stars Program to monetize the lives for the creator, whaaaaat. I’ve been doing these lives for so long, over 150 of them in total and the new invitation to monetize has been such an amazing joy! So now we have MORE prizes, and for the first time, a dedicated free crochet along for the viewers. And it’s all because this awesome community comes together 🥰🥰🥰. Join us tonight on the CoCo Crochet Lee Facebook Page at 830pm est to begin this beautiful beginner friendly hat pattern! Instructions, tutorials, and community love are all involved, and I’m beyond excited ❤🥰.
Here are the details!

The White and Blue Ombre Hat
For my Wip Wednesday Cal Juniper Hat, I’ve used two different kinds of WeCrochet Yarn for a completely different look! The Ombre Blue and White Hat is made with WeCrochet Wonderfluff, which is billowy and soooo soft!
The WeCrochet Website describes Wonderfluff:
Silky baby alpaca and fleecy merino fibers are blown into a lightweight tube of nylon mesh. The result is a yarn that’s beautifully bulky yet super lightweight and warm. Choose from a subdued palette of neutral heathers and muted pastels, each perfect for becoming your next oh-so-cozy pullover or light-as-air accessory. Pair with a solid shade of Wonderfluff on either end of the cake for an extra-long color change!
The Multi Coloured Hat
The other Yarn I worked with was WeCrochet Muse! I love this handpainted yarn so much that I have another colourway set aside to make a third hat along with the group for this crochet along!
WeCrochet describes Muse Yarn:
Now available in stunning bursts of speckled colorways, each skein of Muse is hand painted for maximum effect. We love to mix and match between all of the colorways for truly unique and showstopping garments and accessories!
Be prepared to be inspired by the hand-painted masterpieces of Muse, our artfully crafted superwash worsted weight Merino wool yarn from Japan. The wonderfully soft and touchable Merino is firmly twisted in a single strand, stable enough to discourage splitting and pilling, while still enjoying the finish and drape of single-ply construction—with special care taken to ensure even thickness. At approx. 8 wraps per inch, the yard to weight ratio can be deceiving, with extra weight from the dense twist crocheting into a satisfying and substantial fabric. With machine washable convenience, you’ll enjoy easy care hats, cowls, and accessories with next-to-skin softness, or sweaters and garments bursting with color.
Meticulously hand dyed by artisans, each skein of Muse is a study in the art of masterful color blending. The multi-colored hand-painted colorways are achieved by the blending of just 3 basic colors, applied with precision, which minimizes the streaking and pooling other hand painted yarns are prone to. Functioning almost as solids, our tonal varieties are ideal for use in projects that feature textural stitches and cables, as the subtle variations in tone emphasize stitches and bring extra depth.

Part Two – Starting the Hat Body
The Juniper Hat is worked top-down, which means that it starts from the crown of your head and works downward towards the brim. We will be starting with a magic circle, but you can replace the magic circle by using a chain in its place. Some of the stitch placements are a bit tricky, so be sure to watch the live tutorial happening during Wip Wednesday on August 11th at 8:30pm est on the CoCo Crochet Lee Facebook Page! You can also watch the replay any time to catch the stitch tutorial.
Let’s Talk about those Gauge Swatches:
There were so many great gauge swatches posted in the CoCo Crochet Lee Community Group, it was wonderful to see!
Gauge is so important when you are crocheting a garment (any kind of wearable, really) because it ensures that your measurements and my measurements will be roughly the same. A few people felt disheartened that their gauge could only be met by using a hook that was several sizes away from mine, and I cannot express enough that that is perfectly okay! We may be using different yarns than each other, and we are also most assuredly using different hands! Everyone crochets differently, and that is the beauty of it. As long as your gauge swatch is measured pretty close to mine, you’re good to go!
As always, for Part Two be sure to update your Ravelry Project to include the Hat Body in order to be entered to win a Furls Streamline Swirl Crochet Hook in the colour and size of your choice!
Let’s get started on Part Two of the Juniper Hat Crochet Along.
