Wip Wednesday Crochet Along – Lakeside Coatigan

It’s happening!! I’m so excited you guys!! It’s our fifth Wip Wednesday Crochet Along! For the friends who haven’t joined us yet, I have an exciting invitation to extend to you! Every Wednesday for roughly the last 3 years, I’ve done a live video chat over on Facebook at 830pm est. We call it Wip Wednesday Live, and there’s a Facebook group to go along with it where everyone posts their current works in progress. It’s been so exciting to see it grow, and it’s now officially sponsored by my friends at @wecrochetofficial who have been offering a weekly prize of yarn and magazines for the last few months 🀩πŸ₯°. So many prizes, so many winners!

Then, something really crazy happened, and Facebook invited us into their new Stars Program to monetize the lives for the creator, whaaaaat. I’ve been doing these lives for so long, over 150 of them in total and the new invitation to monetize has been such an amazing joy! So now we have MORE prizes, and for the first time, a dedicated free crochet along for the viewers. And it’s all because this awesome community comes together πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°. Join us Wednesday on the CoCo Crochet Lee Facebook Page at 830pm est to begin this beautiful beginner-friendly hat pattern! Instructions, tutorials, and community love are all involved, and I’m beyond excited ❀πŸ₯°.

The Yarn

Lion Brand Wool Ease

I’ve used Lion Brand Wool-Ease Yarn for my Wip Wednesday Cal Lakeside Coatigan, and it is so dreamy! The colours are perfect for Fall, which is just around the corner. I can’t wait to wear this coatigan out to the pumpkin patch and to pick apples with my family!

About the Lion Brand Yarn Kit:

The Lion Brand Yarn kit is made up of all of the yarn and colours that I used for my Lakeside Coatigan. While you don’t need to use this exact yarn, I highly recommend it! The weight and the colour of the yarn is perfect for this coat, and the price is perfect for a garment of this size. Wool-Ease yardage goes a long way, and is worth every penny for this luxury coatigan that you will want to last!

Let’s Begin!

The Wip Wednesday Cal begins today, are you excited?! I am!

This cal is going to run just a little bit differently from our previous Wip Wednesday Cals.

If you want to check out the previous ones, you can find them all for free here:

Wip Wednesday Ca Juniper Hat >> https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/wip-wednesday-cal-juniper-hat

In previous cals, we released the pattern in parts, and worked on them all together. But since this crochet along is made up of squares that are joined together, and since it is also a kit from Lion Brand Yarn, we will be releasing the entire pattern at once, and working on it together during Wip Wednesday. If you are hoping to follow along with the live video tutorials for this pattern here is the schedule of events!

Week One:  Choose your yarn and match your gauge! Your square should measure 6” by 6”

Week Two – Joining Squares

Following the chart above for your size, join your squares in using your favourite joining method using MC.

There will be a slight gap in the underarm area for sizes med-5x due to the back panel being off-center from the front panel. After seaming, sew this underarm gap closed.

  1. Hello, I want to make this coatigan and use the JAYG method. How would I join the squares for this method. I know I can do the back panel with the JAYG, but I’m stumped when it comes to the front panels and arms. I have made a granny square cardigan, and the amount of rows for the back (lets say 6) is the same amount for the front panel. If I were to make the large, is the back panel 5 or 7 rows?

  2. Really struggling with getting started. I do not understand the instructions. Is there is video anywhere I can access?
    Thanks!

  3. Thank you so much for sharing this pattern. I finally went out of my comfort zone and attempted to make something to wear. Even though it turned out alittle bigger than I thought it would, I am super happy with it.

  4. Hello!
I’m just working on the seaming party of this for the medium and am confused by the gap in the side seam. Do you have any images of what it looks like?

  5. Hi! This coatigan looks amazing, but I got confused because it says β€œhat” in a couple of places in this post. I just wanted to make sure I understand that the CAL is for the coatigan and not a hat.
    Thank you!
