Friends: The One With The Crochet – The Central Perk Apron

Have you seen the Central Perk Apron design inside the new Friends: The One With The Crochet book coming out this April?! It’s on my must-make list!

The Central Perk Apron was designed for the book by my amazing friend Rachel from Evelyn and Peter! Rachel did such an excellent job on this project, and I can’t wait for everyone to get the book and make one of their own!

Interviewing Yarn Dyer Rachel Misner

I have had the pleasure of working with my dear friend Rachel from Evelyn and Peter for a handful of amazing years now, and I can honestly say there have been so many laughs, some tears, some cheerleading, and some handholding. Having designer friends is such a fantastic thing, and I am so grateful that Rachel joined this project with me so that we could share the joy now!

For the Friends: The One With The Crochet Book, it made total sense that my friend Rachel wanted to work on something to do with the character Rachel! Her Central Perk Apron is absolutely perfect, and I hope everyone enjoys it!

Here is our interview for our Virtual Book Tour, but before you dive in, be sure to follow Rachel on her social media on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and her Blog!

1). Can you tell me about how you became part of the Friends Crochet Book, and any experiences/thoughts/feelings you had at joining the book?

Lee reached out to let me know that she would be writing a Friends crochet pattern book and
asked if I wanted to design something for it! Obviously, I agreed right away! I am a huge fan of
Lee’s other books and designs so I was super excited to be part of a Friends book!

2). Describe your design and its inspiration in relation to the Show.

My design is Rachel’s Central Perk waitress apron! I knew immediately I wanted to design
something that was related to Rachel’s character in the show… any guesses why? Haha. You’ll
notice in the show Rachel does not have a signature apron but instead wears different ones
each episode! I wanted my apron to feature the iconic “Central Perk” logo, so that’s what I did!

3). How did you approach your design? Was there anything you found fun or exciting about the
design process?

Once I knew I would be making an apron, I immediately went to work designing the graph. I
enjoy doing different colorwork and graph work in C2C (corner 2 corner) designs so I was
excited to make one for the apron! This was actually the most enjoyable part of the process for
me. I like a challenge and it was definitely challenging getting a detailed graph on such a small
space. The front of an apron is a whole lot smaller than a blanket which is what I was used to
designing my graphs on. Once the graph was made I jumped right into making it. The
construction of the main body of the apron is very simple so that the logo can be the star of the
show!

4). Are you a fan of the Friends TV Show? What are some of your favourite memories or
moments?

I am a fan of the show! I have memories of my Mom watching it while I was a child. Re-runs just
playing on the TV in the background during day-to-day life. It’s fun to look back and rewatch
episodes and notice all the jokes that fly right over your head as a kid. One of my favorite
moments has to be when Phoebe sang The Smelly Cat Jingle.

5). If you could make any other design from the book, which would you make first? Why?

I would love to make the How You Doin floor mat because who wouldn’t want one of those?! I
would also make the Girls Sweatshirt!

6). Is there anything else you would like to add to your feature? Tips/advice/shout-outs etc.

Just wanted to give a big thanks to Lee for having me be part of her book! Love you and SO
proud of you!! Pivot!!
