Friends: The One With The Crochet – The One With The Baby Blanket by Lee Sartori

The One With The Baby Blanket is one of the sweetest designs in the new ‘Friends: The One With Crochet’ Book! When ideas were coming through for this book, a baby blanket was at the top of the list of must-makes, and I am so happy with how it turned out! Because I was the Author of this book and working on many of the designs at once with a short due date, I asked my dear friend Dasiey Womack (an excellent crocheter, and lovely friend!) to be my hands for me on this project! Dasiey knocked it out of the park and is a great example of how being a Sample Crocheter works! Today I am excited to talk about The One With The Baby Blanket and bring Dasiey in to tell you about her experience working on the book with us (thanks Dasiey!).

Interviewing Sample Crocheter Dasiey Womack

There are so many beautiful crocheters in our crochet community and I am beyond lucky to have become friends with one such amazing crocheter, Dasiey Womack! You may recognize Dasiey’s name as she is also one of my biggest helpers on Facebook, helping me run my Facebook group and my Facebook lives for Wip Wednesday each week!

When I designed The One With The Baby Blanket for this book, I was able to work up the colour chart myself, and then call on Dasiey to crochet the sample blanket for the finished photography for the book! I was so lucky that she agreed to join the team.

Being a sample crocheter is a big task with big expectations, and I knew I could trust Dasiey to care for my design as much as I would myself. Dasiey worked quickly, updated me regularly (where we did little happy dances about how the blanket was coming along), and also freed up my hands so that I could work on a few of the sweaters and amigurumi in the book myself. Books have such a short working timeline, that having Dasiey help was such an integral part for me. I am so grateful to Dasiey, and can’t wait to see what she has in store next!

Here is our interview for our Virtual Book Tour, but before you dive in, be sure to follow Dasiey on her social media on Instagram, and her tiktok!

1). Can you tell me about how you became part of the Friends Crochet Book, and any experiences/thoughts/feelings you had at joining the book?

My friend Coco Lee asked me if I wanted to be part of a project she was working on. I was pretty shocked and proud that Lee would ask me to help her with such an important project. I learned a lot about myself and my crochet skills during this project. It made me realize that I am capable of making such a project
and that people actually want to see my work.

2). What design did you work on for the book? Were you excited to take the job on?

I worked on the sample baby blanket pattern called The one with the baby. I was super excited and nervous about the job. I have never been asked to do a sample project for a book before. I didn’t want to
disappoint my friend Coco Lee, so I made sure to do my very best on this project for her. I know
how important projects like this can be.

3). How did you approach your sample crochet work? Was there anything you found fun or exciting about the crocheting process?

When I first got the sample crochet pattern,I did a quick read on what yarn and hook I would need to use. I also did a quick read over the pattern too. After getting the supplies I needed together I got down to work. I found that doing the color work and lettering was the most exciting part of the project. I have done letter work before but not at this big of a level. I found it difficult but a lot of fun too.

4). Are you a fan of the Friends TV Show? What are some of your favourite memories or
moments?

I would watch Friends from time to time. It was a very funny show. My favorite character was Joey. My favorite moment was the famous pivot scene. I have never laughed so much in my life.

5). If you could make any other design from the book, which would you make first? Why?

Hmmm, This is a hard question, All of the patterns from the book are so amazing. I think I would
make the couch because it makes me think of my favorite scene pivot from the show.

6). Is there anything else you would like to add to your feature? Tips/advice/shout-outs etc.

During the time it took me to make this project, I learned that even though you make mistakes
and have to start again doesn’t make you a disappointment. It just shows that you are human
and need to pick it back up and make it even better next time.
