My Crochet Happy Place – A Crochet Mini Getaway at The Retro Suites Hotel

We first visited several years ago, and every time we come, we stay in a different room. This may not sound like anything out of the ordinary, but when you stay in a different room at the Retro Suites, they mean DIFFERENT. Every single guest room at the Retro Suites Hotel is themed! From ‘The Library’, to ‘Santa Fe’, to ‘Paris’, to ‘Pop!’, you can visit again and again and never see the same room twice.
I first decided to stay at the Retro Suites when Sean was turning 30 and I was looking for a way to get him away for the night without our little ones. When I found the hotel online, I became captivated by all of the different room choices available., there were so many!! We ended up staying in the ‘La Rouge’ which was a modern, sleek, and yes, very red room! The bathroom was amazing, and unique. The bed, a stark white cloud in a well decorated pop of bold colour.
On another visit, Sean and I stayed in ‘The Study’, a completely different feel from the room we had visited before. The Study features cascading bookshelves from ceiling to floor filling the entire main wall of the room. Real books. You can pick one off the shelf and give it a good read while you’re there! The room was bright and lovely, and basically a book lovers dream. (Think Belle from Beauty and the Beast!).
On this visit, we had the utmost pleasure of staying in a room called ‘Paris’. Be still my heart, was this room ever beautiful. Towering ceilings, completely covered in silver embossed tiles, and Parisian themed decor throughout. This room had two huge windows that flooded the room with natural light, and at night, the ceiling looked like an enchanted sky filled with stars as the small amount of light glittered off of the tiles high above our heads. I don’t think I’ve ever fallen asleep under a more beautiful roof than this before!
But I’ve gotten way ahead of myself! The reason we came to stay at the Retro Suites this time was to meet the wonderful Gena and Halleigh, two of the Retro Suites Staff that love to crochet! I had the chance to sit down with Gena and Halleigh who are members of the Social Media Team, and stitch away on some projects while we talked about yarn, television shows, and social media. It was so awesome to spend time with them and hear about what they like to crochet and knit, and how they both learned.
Afterwards, Sean and I were able to go on a tour of some of the vacant hotel rooms that we hadn’t seen before, and I can’t wait to come back again to stay in them! Going from room to room really made me feel a bit like Alice in Wonderland, taking an adventure into a whole bunch of different places and getting lost in the Retro Suites unique and amazing hallways filled with statues and art
Every single hallway, every twist and turn is a new photo opportunity, and a new adventure! In most hotels, you want to take the elevator to get from floor to floor, but at the Retro Suites, you want to actually venture down from level to level and explore the winding hallways so that you don’t miss anything!
The final stop on our Retro Suites Tour/ visit was to venture into the gorgeous restaurant attached to the Retro Suites called ‘The Chilled Cork’. This restaurant embodies the same spirit as the hotel, and is decorated with the same whimsy and fun! The food is amazing, and Sean and I had such an awesome time.
