Intriguing motifs that begin as a circle and turn into a granny square make Juliet’s November Afghan a delight for crocheters . The familiar granny stitch border adds a classic touch, while oversized tassels bring this afghan into modern decor.

Materials
Yarn needle, scissors.
Sizes
Blanket square = 12” x 12”, finished blanket = 50” x 50”
Gauge
3 Granny Clusters x 4 Rows = 3”
Notes
1. Weave in ends as work progresses
2. Beginning ch 1 does not count as a st.
Instructions:
Square (make 16)
Round 1: Ch 2, 12 dc in ring, join–12 dc.
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 dc in each st around, join–24 dc.
Round 3: Ch 1, *2 dc, dc; repeat from * around, join–36 dc.
Round 4: Ch 1, *2 dc, dc 2; repeat from * around, join–48 dc.
Round 5: Ch 1, *2 dc, dc 3; repeat from * around, join–60 dc.
Round 6: *Ch 5, skip 4 sts, sl st in next; repeat from * around, join–12 ch spaces..
Round 7: Ch 2, *7 dc in ch space, ch 1; repeat from * around, join to 1st ch of ch-2–84 dc.
Round 8: Ch 1, *(4 dc, ch 2, 4 dc) in ch-1 space, [(4 dc, ch 1, 4 dc) in next ch-1 space] twice; repeat from * around, join–96 dc.

Round 9: Slip st to next ch-2 space, ch 1, *(4 dc, ch 2, 4 dc) in ch-2 space, [ch 3, dc in next ch-1 space, ch 3, sc in next ch-1 space] twice, ch 3, dc in next ch-1 space, ch 3; repeat from * around, join–44 dc, 16 sc.
Round 10: Slip st to next ch-2 space, ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 space, [ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-3 space] 5 times; repeat from * around, join– 84 dc.
Round 11: Slip st to next ch-2 space, ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 space, [ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-3 space] 6 times; repeat from * around, join– 96 dc.
Round 12: Slip st to next ch-2 space, ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 space, [ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-3 space] 7 times; repeat from * around, join– 108 dc.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Joining
Use prefered joining method to join squares in a 4 x 4 blanket.
Border
Round 1: Join to any ch-2 corner space on blanket, ch 1, *(3dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner, ch 1, 3 dc in each ch-1 space; repeat across to where two squares meet, ch 1, dc in 1st ch-2 space of first square, dc2tog over each ch-2 space of joined squares, dc in second square ch-2 space. Repeat around entire blanket, join.
Round 2: Sl st to ch-2 corner, ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 corner, ch 1, 3 dc in each ch-1 space across; repeat from * around, join.
Round 3: Sl st to ch-2 corner, ch 1, *(3 hdc, ch 2, 3 hdc) in ch-2 corner, hdc in each dc and ch-1 space across; repeat from * around, join.
Round 4: Sl st to ch-2 corner, ch 1, sc in 3rd loop of each hdc, ch 2 in each corner.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Tassels (make 4)
Cut approx 20 12” pieces of yarn. Tie a piece of yarn around center of bundle, leaving long tail to fasten to blanket corner. Fasten to corner of blanket, and incorporate ends into the bundle. Tie a second piece around center of bundle to close the tassel.
