The Hat-Not-Hate Sunhat is made in support of the Hat-Not-Hate Campaign!
Lion Brand Yarn asks knitters and crocheters to make handmade blue hats and donate them to their cause. In October, National Bullying Prevention Month, they distribute the hats to schools across the country for students to wear, empowering them to stand up to bullying. I’m so happy to offer a free pattern in support of this campaign, and one for summer weather seemed perfect!

The super cute #hatnothate tag was made by my friend Jenna from A Cute Design, you can find here here >> https://www.anothercutedesign.com/shop.html

Let’s talk about this amazing yarn!
For the Hat-Not-Hate Sunhat, I used an amazing kind of cotton – Lion Brand 24/7 cotton. 24/7 Cotton is a worsted-weight, mercerized 100% natural fiber yarn. The mercerization process gives the yarn incredible color and sheen which will last through multiple wash cycles! You can choose from a variety of 24 colors, but for this hat, I went with the campaign color – blue! Since I wanted the stitches to pop, the blue (which is called Denim) is paired with a white.

For the Sunhat, you only need 1 ball of each colour, a little bit goes a long way!
Working with Craft Wire
The Brim of this hat is crocheted around about 60″ of craft wire, the kind you can find at the dollar store, or any craft store. It helps keep the brim standing rather than having it fall in your face.
You can make the hat without the craft wire if you are happy with a more relaxed brim.

I love working with Lion Brand, so if you have some of their yarn in your stash, take a peek at these great patterns:

Happy Crocheting!

Good morning! I have a question about the hat-not-hate pattern. The only round where it says to join is round one. Just clarifying that I am not joining on other rounds correct? I’m Newish to crocheting and don’t want this hat to be wonky!
Hello! Yes, join every round.
I have a question about rows 14-34. The pattern says to repeat rows 3-4. Row 3 doubles the stitch count, but based on the stitch counts for row 13 and 35 the stitches for rows 14-34 shouldn’t increase. Should these rows be a repeat of rows 6 and 7 instead?
Hey there! Yes, I’ll update everything today. Thanks for reaching out
Hello Coco – This is an absolutely adorable hat. Lion Brand 24/7 yarn is a great choice. It is such a versatile yarn, makes a clean stitch and is easy to work with. One question I have: where the head part meets the brim what is the approximate diameter or circumference? I have a small head. Thanks for sharing your great pattern.
Hey there! It’s about 21″
Many thanks.
Hello, Coco. I like your cute Hat-Not-Hate pattern. I’ve got a question about the craft wire- could it rust if one washes the hat? Thanks.
Hey there Niamh! It depends on the craft wire, I’d say the more you wash it the more likely it is to rust.
