Crochet the Free Millie Melody Pullover Pattern

The Millie Melody Pullover has become my new favourite sweater to wear you guys! I love it so much, I have been wearing it non-stop. I am so excited to be able to offer it as a free crochet pattern for you, in nine different sizes!

Yarn

Lion Brand Comfy Cotton (392 yds/200g):  5 (5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9) balls Whipped Cream

Materials

US Size G/6 (4.0mm) crochet hook, yarn needle, scissors, stitch marker. 

Size/Measurements

XS (Small, Med, Lg, 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x)

30-34 (34-38, 38-40, 40-44, 44-48, 48-52, 52-56, 56-60, 60-64)”

Gauge

3 pattern sts x 6 rows = 4”

Pattern for gauge = sc, skip 2 sts, shell, skip 2 sts. 

Special Stitches

Shell = 5 dc in same st. 

Fhdc (foundationless half double crochet) = ch 2, yo and insert hook in 2nd ch from hook, yo and pull up loop, yo and pull through 1 loop on hook (1st ch made), yo and pull through 3 loops (hdc made), *yo and insert hook into ch of previous foundation stitch, yo and pull up loop, yo and pull through 1 loop on hook (ch made), yo and pull through 3 loops (hdc made); repeat from * until desired number of fhdc have been made. 

Notes

  1. When working the round after a decreased shell, make a long sc into the middle of the shell 2 rows below rather than in the middle of the next shell.

Instructions:

Body

Round 1 (RS):  Fhdc 152 (160, 168, 184, 192, 200, 208, 216, 232) sts, join to 1st st to form a ring. 

Round 2:  Ch 1, *fpdc 2, bpdc 2; repeat from * around, join. 

Round 3:  Ch 1, sc around decreasing 2 (4, 0, 4, 0, 2, 4, 0, 4) sts evenly, join–150 (156, 168, 180, 192, 198, 204, 216, 228) sts.

Round 4:  Ch 1 (does not count as a st here and throughout), *sc, skip 2, Shell, skip 2; repeat from * around, join to 1st sc–25 (26, 28, 30, 32, 33, 34, 36, 38) Shells. 

Round 5:  Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), 2dc in same st, *skip 2 dc, sc in next, skip 2 dc, Shell in sc; repeat from * around, 2dc in same st as ch 3, join to top of ch 3. 

Next Rounds:  Repeat Rounds 4-5 until Body measures 16 (16, 16, 16.5, 16.5, 17, 17, 17, 17)” from beginning ending at a WS Round.
Straightening Round:  Ch 3, hdc in next dc, sc in next 3 sts, hdc in next, *dc in next, hdc in next, sc in next 3, hdc in next; repeat from * around, join to top of ch 3.

Last Body Round:  Ch 1, sc around increasing 2 (4, 0, 4, 0, 2, 4, 0, 4) sts evenly, join–152 (160, 168, 184, 192, 200, 208, 216, 232) sts.

Fasten off. Place Markers for 76 (80, 84, 92, 96, 100, 104, 108, 116) sts for Front/Back. 

Back Short Rows

Row 1:  Join to 1st st of Back, ch 1, sc across to last st of back, turn–76 (80, 84, 92, 96, 100, 104, 108, 116) sts.

Rows 2-12:  Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. 

Fasten off. 

Seperate For Sleeves 

Round 1:  Join in 5th st from 1st Marker, ch 1, sc to 6 sts from next marker, ch 40 (42, 44, 46, 50, 52, 56, 62, 64), skip 12, sc to 6 sts to next Marker, ch 40 (42, 44, 46, 50, 52, 56, 62, 64), skip 6 sts, join to st st–64 (68, 70, 78, 82, 84, 88, 92, 98) sts each for Front and Back. 

Fasten off.

Yoke

With Back facing, skip 1st 32 (34, 35, 39, 41, 42, 44, 46, 49) sts, place marker to mark Center of Back. 

Round 1:  Scc in each sc and ch around, placing a marker on 1st st of Front and last st of Front, do not join–208 (220, 228, 248, 264, 272, 288, 308, 324) sts. 

Round 2:  Sc around decreasing 4 (4, 0, 4, 0, 4, 0, 4, 0) evenly around 204 (216. 228, 252, 264, 276, 288, 312, 324) sts.

Rounds 3-15 (16, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 24, 25):  Sc around. 

Round 16 (17, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26):  *Sc2tog, sc 11; repeat from * around–187 (198, 209, 231, 242, 253, 264, 286, 297) sts.

Rounds 17 (18, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27)-20 (22, 24, 23, 25, 26, 27, 29, 30):  Sc around. 

Round 21 (23, 25, 24, 26, 27, 28, 30, 31):  *Sc2tog, sc 10; repeat from * around–170 (180, 190, 210, 220, 230, 240, 260, 270) sts.
Rounds 22 (24, 26, 25, 27, 28, 29, 31, 32)-25 (27, 30, 27, 29, 31, 32, 34, 35):  Sc around.

Round 57:  *Sc2tog, sc 4 around; repeat from * around–108 sts.

Round 39 (42, 46, 46, 49, 52, 53, 57, 58):  Sc around decreasing 6 (8, 14, 1, 6, 11, 16, 22, 0) sts evenly around, join to 1st st–96 (100, 100, 104, 104, 104, 104, 108, 108) sts. 

Fasten off, weave in ends. 

Hood

Row 1:  With Front Facing, skip middle 3 (3, 7, 7, 7, 7, 7, 5, 5) sts, mark 1st skipped st, fasten on to the 4th (4th, 8th, 8th, 8th, 8th, 8th, 6th, 6th) st leaving sts in between unworked, ch 1, sc in same st, *skip 2, shell, skip 2, sc in next; repeat from * across, sc in last, turn–15, (16, 16, 16, 16, 16, 16, 17, 17) shells. 

Row 2:  Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), 2dc in same st (half shell made), *skip 2 sts, sc in next, skip 2 sts, shell in next; repeat from * across to last, 3dc in last st, turn. 

Row 3:  Ch 1, sc in same st, *skip 2 sts, shell in next, skip 2 sts, sc in next; repeat from * across, sc in last, turn.

Repeat Rows 2-3 until hood measures 9”.

Row 4:  Ch 3, *hdc in next, sc 3, hdc in next, dc in next; repeat from * across. 

Fasten off, seam hood closed. 

Hood Trim

Join to bottom left Front of Hood opening, sc evenly around entire hood opening, join. 

Fasten off, weave in ends. 

Sleeves

Round 1:  Join yarn to bottom of sleeve opening, ch 1, sc 66 (66, 66, 72, 72, 78, 78, 84, 84) sts evenly around, join to 1st st. 

Round 2:  Ch 1 (does not count as a st here and throughout), *sc, skip 2, Shell, skip 2; repeat from * around, join to 1st sc.

Round 3:  Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), 2dc in same st, *skip 2 dc, sc in next, skip 2 dc, Shell in sc; repeat from * around, 2dc in same st as ch 3, join to top of ch 3. 

Round 4 (decrease round):  Ch 1 (does not count as a st here and throughout), *sc, skip 2, Shell, skip 2; repeat from * to last 2 shells, 3dc in 1st sc, 2dc in next sc (decrease shell made), skip 2, join. 

Round 5:  Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), 2dc in same st, *skip 2 dc, sc in next, skip 2 dc, Shell in sc; repeat from * around to last sc, long sc in middle of shell 2 rows below, skip 2, 2dc in same st as ch 3, join to top of ch 3. 

Repeat Rounds 2-3 until sleeve measures 6”. 

Repeat Rounds 2-5. 

Repeat Rounds 2-3 until sleeve measures 12”.

Repeat Rounds 2-5. 

Repeat Rounds 2-3 until sleeve measures 18”.

Straightening Round:  Ch 3, hdc in next dc, sc in next 3 sts, hdc in next, *dc in next, hdc in next, sc in next 3, hdc in next; repeat from * around, join to top of ch 3.

Final Round:  Ch 1, *sc 4, sc2tog; repeat from * around, join. 

Fasten off and weave in ends.

  1. Do you have photos of this sweater that are straight on the front and back? The photos you have are cute but not helpful to anyone actually making this.
    Is the short rows section count correct? I’m stuck on that section since the end stitch count of row 1 doesn’t match the back marker counts.

      Thank you for your message, the stitch count for the short rows has been updated! I don’t have the original sample for this anymore so I don’t have any additional photos.
